The first reports about Týnec Castle date back to 1318. According to archaeological findings, however, the area was inhabited as early as the 8th to 10th century. In the 11th century a wooden castle was built here, later a stone castle with a Romanesque rotunda. The owners of the castle changed frequently and the building fell into disrepair. It was not developed until the time of Count Franz Josef of Vrtba, who became its owner in 1785.
Today, the castle features a Romanesque rotunda from the turn of the 11th century with a chapel and a Gothic prism tower from the 13th century, which houses a lookout tower and, above all, the residence of the big bat. In the museum, you must not miss the exhibition of the famous stoneware from Tyniec, where you can learn about the beauty of stoneware and the production processes. In addition, the museum offers various sales exhibitions, a Romanesque cellar and an archaeological exhibition. The castle hosts many events throughout the year, from children's theatre to historical festivals.
